Normally we don’t dish out the dough to see movies in the theatre (always swallow hard knowing we could’ve bought a movie for the same price). But this one was different. It was worth EVERY penny and will be one we buy for our personal collection.
After seeing it, I can’t stop thinking about, The Vow.
A few nights ago we saw the preview and decided Redbox was too long to wait for this one.
With a bag full of munchies, playing footsie, and holding hands, we were set.
Within the first 5 minutes of the movie I was already in tears (a slow motion car accident scene, hit close to home). I saw myself reliving a very similar experience, back in ’09.
Ryan clenched my hand harder and sympathetically asked, “Should we leave, sweetie?” He knows how the accident will never be something I get over. It changed me.
I, like Paige (Rachel McAdams), hit the front windshield from not wearing a seatbelt. I sustained a fractured neck with paralysis on my right side for several months. However, unlike her, to incur memory loss where I couldn’t recognize my own husband, is beyond me.
In both cases, life changed forever in an instant.
If you’re hoping to see Hollywood’s typical scripted “get rich over Valentine’s weekend” flick this isn’t the one. Lots of teenage girls grumbled on their way out disappointed it wasn’t a “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” type.
It’s a real story. One that left an impact on our hearts.
Tears continued to flow for us throughout the entire movie. For me, it’s because I saw our own simply sweet love reflected on the big screen. A love, that Leo (Channing Tatum) describes as, “…a once in a lifetime type of love.”
The simplest little treat that brought tee-hee’s (heart giggles). Salty & sweet… it’s the perfect combination. Thanks, Honeyheart. xo
Have you ever been to the Melting Pot? Unfortunately, I haven’t. Ask Husby how many times I’ve whined about this topic. He’d probably roll his eyes and say, “Over priced food that we pay to cook ourselves? I don’t get it.” Duh, Husby. It’s fun and delicious AND romantic. This IS the point of the Melting Pot, no?
Well, since stubborn stinkerpants won’t budge (and because I’m not about to go dip fondue by my lonesome) I made our own spread at home. Yes, Bubba included (even if he did eat half the plate of Strawberries himself).
If only I had a video to capture all the Mmmmm’ing that was going on.
It was fun, delicious, AND definitely the highlight of our day together.
Now THAT is the real point.
Psst!
Can you get over the adorable French fondue crocks? Yes, you heard me… MADE.IN.FRANCE.
Dying, right? (and so will your tongues). They were purchased HERE!
A BIG thank you to Blazing Thyme for ensuring they arrived in time! xo
I can not wait to see The Vow…that is what the husband and I are doing for our Valentine’s date! I am a new follower and would LOVE if you would stop by and follow back 🙂
I was just talking to the fiance last night about going to see The Vow. I showed him the trailer, and he was hooked from the beginning. Valentine’s date? I think so 🙂 We will bring the tissues. What a scary scary experience you had. Life changing, for sure. I’m sure it has only made you stronger and from reading your blog, you have such a positive outlook on life!
The fondue spread looks amazing!
I’ve never been to the Melting Pot either and I live literally ten minutes away. I’ve always wanted to go but they are so expensive and way too long of a wait. I’m definitely going to have to take some pointers on this meal and make it for Valentines!

I’ve never had fondue either, but it looks delicious!! I got your tweet about the Vow too it was an amazing movie and even Mr. Charming liked it! He even warmed my hands up like Leo did to Paige and I was just melting! ha
I am in the same Melting Pot boat as you. Hubs REFUSES to go and I am dying to. I have to find a girl friend who wants to go with me, but I keep forgetting about it. Thanks for reminding me!
But he did take me to see The Vow this weekend too, so points for him!
We saw the Vow this weekend as well, my husband didn’t really like the ending but I kept saying it was a REAL love story. I’m so sorry to hear about your accident but glad you are ok and still have your memory. Also I’ve been to the melting pot once and it looks like your at home version is way more fun!
Your pictures are always so gorgeous and the lighting is always perfect. Do you use any special lighting when you are shooting, like an ego light or anything? I’d love to know.
Your 14 days of love are so adorable!
I went and saw The Vow as well and was crying the whole time too! I cried more I think for Channing Tatum’s character. I thought they did a good job of showing how difficult it must be for Paige even as we were frustrated over the hurt she was causing her husband. After all, she really didn’t know any better. But wow, to be the husband and to witness your wife be there but not there…gosh, just awful.
I remember you saying you started blogging when you were on bed rest after your accident but I hadn’t heard the details; that sounds absolutely terrifying. I’m so glad you don’t have any lasting injuries. I can totally see how something like that would really leave an impact – I don’t know if I’d ever be able to drive again!
Oh my gosh, just stop. you two are way too cute. I definitely need to do this for the hubs next year (since I missed the boat this year). How the heck did you fit all those treats into your bag for the movie theatre? My goodness, taking your own popcorn, genius! I love treats during movies but they are so expensive.
Chocolate covered pretzels. Fondue. Absolutely perfect. Now I need to do at least something small for the hubs tonight and tomorrow.
I saw the Vow at midnight and like you absolutely loved it! She is the most wonderful lovely actress! The movie was great, also just a tip since the hubs won’t shell out for melting pot, you can sit at the bar during happy hour since they’re trying to make money off of drinks they offer the cheese and chocolate pots for way cheap! Score!!!! It’s basically heaven! Hope you have a rockin Valentines Day!

I LOVED the Vow. It was different than I thought it was going to be because most of the movie was sad/real parts instead of lovie parts. But that made it more of a “thinker”.
You are so blessed to have made a full recovery from your accident. Thanks for sharing 🙂 -Melissa
I saw the pre-showing of The Vow and LOVED it! I can’t wait to go back and see it again…and then buy it. I have been following your blog and love the 14 days of love idea. I’ve been sharing with my hubby…we may have to try this next year. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
The Melting Pot is WELL worth the money for the fun times and experience! BUT this is so so cute and personalized and you got to spend some quality time with your boys! So awesome! 🙂
Wow – I had read that you blogged after your accident but I never knew how terrifying and life changing it was. I LOVE that having been through something like that you have still kept such a beautiful zest for life!
Happy Valentines! x
Sounds like you live in co. and denver restaurant week is this month which means 3 course meal for 2 at melting pot for 50 bucks. And their filet is to die for;) If you eat meat
I’ve been the Melting Pot – believe me, you are not missing out. Sounds like the bar suggestion may be the best idea, since the cheese (appetizer) and chocolate (dessert) dips are the best part. Specially don’t go if you’re hungry – waited too long for the meat to cook. It wasn’t a memorable night – seems like what you created was much better.
I’m way late on this- but there’s a book called Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella with the same plot. Main character has an accident and wakes up unable to remember the last 4 years of her life, including her husband and how she got her current job. It’s not so much a tear jerker or a super serious book but it’s good. Definitely recommend you check it out!
Where did you get the plates and stuff?
I’m having trouble buying the fondue online, I love how easy it looks to heat up and want to surprise my boyfriend. Do you have the link to purchase them the one above is not working? Or perhaps any suggestions on other brands?
