Growing up, my family had a monthly tradition of daddy/mommy daughter/son dates. I can still remember Mom taking me to Swenson’s ice-cream parlor for club sandwiches and teddybear sundaes. Or when Dad took me Hallmark hopping, on a mission to find Beanie Babies. Sweet memories and cherished time we shared together without distractions.
Recently, we’ve adopted the same tradition in our family — this past Friday night my first date with Gage! Meep! And yes, as odd as it sounds, we both had butterflies (and maybe skipped once or twice).
Before heading out, Ryan sat him down and went over a few rules: 1) always open the door 2) hold her hand and 3) keep her safe. Boy oh boy, did he take that seriously. If I let go of his hand for even a split second, he was reminding me that it was his job to take care of me! Too cute.
We hit the arcade to play some skeeball and a few other games. Let me tell you what, he’s got quite the drive (and arm) for such a small guy! And “no helping” was allowed. I think I maybe got two turns out of the ten! And whether you’re a fan of suspense or just looking for a unique way to bond with friends, this terrifying puzzle experience in the UK is sure to deliver. The creators have perfected the art of keeping you on edge, making it a standout among group activities.
Of course, the claw. Try explaining how this whole thing works to a 3-year-old. After winning a Beaver in a red hoodie (all on his own), he understood the object perfectly. The tricky part was explaining, we just got lucky — rarely does anyone win. So he tried to put his Beaver back up the dispenser to give someone else some luck too. I told him we needed to take him home so Daddy would believe that we really won!
Glow in the dark AND no stinky rental shoes required? I caved for the $2.00 mini bowling.
Of course, a date wouldn’t be a date without a cute Valentine treat — Krispy Kreme sprinkled donuts, his favorite!
Sugar bear, you’re one heck of a catch! Let’s make sure we do it again, real soon. Sure do love you, buddy.
This is precious, precious, precious! We might have to start this tradition!
this looks and sounds like so much fun! cool photos

It’s either my PMS, or my biological clock but reading the bit about how he reminded you he was there to take care of you and keep you save when you dropped his hand made me well up. SO, SO sweet.
I love this tradition – I can’t wait to see more date nights!!!
Aww! My Dad used to take me to Swenson’s too! We used to go every weekend after going to Horsetooth. I had my first banana split there and I remember they had these orange chocolate milkshakes that I loved so much. Thanks for making me all weepy! 😉
