Entertaining Family Fun House

Party Animal

May 20, 2013

It’s…

Your growl, bright blue eyes, the way you shake your head no when you really mean yes, your wave, and how you point at everyone and everything, how you inhale through your nose and exhale the biggest smile when your hair gets washed, your intentional messiness , open mouth kisses (that resemble eating face), your contagious giggle you inherited from Dad, pudgy feet with toe dimples, your shy confidence, and how you’re the happiest in my arms.

It’s…

All of these things and more that we cherish!

We loved celebrating YOU and your birthday!

Oh I love his face with the tiger! Haha! So cute! Where are the animals from? I love them!!

    • missy May 20, 2013 at 1:44 pm

Animals are toys the boys enjoy playing with together. Ironically, I spotted them in the $1 section at Target last summer.

Absolutely adorable! He’s one lucky guy to call you his Mom.

Hi! This is a very sweet blogpost and very sweet photos! could you share a little about your setup? was this a photo session or an actual party photo session? what is the black backdrop? Is it a wall in your house or a black backdrop? It looks like you are set for a party but only photos of your family are shown, so I’m curious how to do something like this. I have twin babies and would really like intentional birthday photos like this, but can’t seem to wrap my mind around how to capture them during a party.
I so appreciate your advice! thank you!

    • missy May 20, 2013 at 1:42 pm

Yes, this was his actual party and pictures were taken during the party. The black wall is leftover black kraft paper I had for wrapping christmas gifts. Happy soon to be birthday for your twins!

Thank you so much! For planning any party, event, or holiday (halloween especially)… I try to focus on significance. Choose one item that your party revolves around. I choose that one item by asking the following questions: What is it that the child loves to play with? Their favorite food? Or even favorite activity? Once you have the answer, the rest of the party follows suit. For Halloween this past year I simply chose our favorite family Saturday tradition of going to get Krispy Kreme Donuts! Ha! For this party, it started with the animals. The boys have been playing with these guys for months and it’s the first thing they’ve really enjoyed playing nicely together. I thought about doing a circus or zoo theme but at the end of the day wanted it to be even more simple. There’s a nod to circus and a nod to zoo. I focused on primary colors, repeating circles, and simple food. The easiest party I’ve thrown yet! Happy you enjoyed it! xo

Those party animals are by far the cutest thing I have ever seen!!! Except of course for the birthday boy! 🙂 Great minds must think alike b/c I also had hot dogs in cute foiled packages for my guys 1st bday. I actually stored them in the warming drawer under the stove which everyone thought was the most amazing idea ever. lol! If they only knew that is where i usually hold lids to all my pots and pans. ha. Great post as usual!!! 🙂 Oh yes, and I too also bought a BUNCH of those $1 animals last year……….GREAT motivation tool for potty training. ha.

the mini party hats for the animals–makes it look like they are laughing and having the time of their lives instead of growling. hahahahaaaa loveeeee.

  • Kara May 20, 2013 at 7:05 pm

How many guests did you serve at this party? Any photos of the actual party?

  • Nikki May 20, 2013 at 8:24 pm

This is such a cute idea. Did you buy the gum ball jar as is, or make them with smaller toy animals and spray paint?

  • Melissa May 20, 2013 at 11:05 pm

What an adorable party! I love the theme! Would you be able to share the recipe to that scrumptious looking cake?

  • Brigette May 21, 2013 at 12:36 am

The shot of your three boys smiling… Killer!! Happy birthday to your little man. 🙂

  • tammy May 21, 2013 at 8:24 pm

I absolutely love how you capture the precious moments in life. I find it hard to have pictures with my kids or even enough of my kids sometimes because I feel like I am always doing something or holding someone. It is also fun to have a good place to look for cute outfit ideas that are way out of my budget. Way to manage things so well!

  • Carrie June 19, 2013 at 4:32 pm

  • maha August 7, 2015 at 6:21 pm

    Hey ,
I love this idea , its simply adorable 🙂 can you please tell me what size are these mason jars I want to make similar party favors for my sons bday!

  • Kristin March 15, 2016 at 4:25 am

LOVE this theme, in fact I am doing the same for my baby’s first birthday! Just wondering where you got the circle garland from? Did you make them? Thanks! 🙂

    • missy March 15, 2016 at 3:36 pm

I found it on etsy, i believe? But it’d be super easy to make… just tissue paper circles sewn together with a sewing machine.

  • Bridgette April 27, 2016 at 2:08 pm

I have been looking for Animal mask like your elephant. Where did you find it?

  • Kala June 30, 2016 at 10:00 pm

Amazing party! In fact, I’m working on the same theme for my son’s 1st birthday. How did you get the hats to stick to the animals? If you used glue, did it easily come off after so that your kids could continue to play with them? Or did it damage them? Thanks!
