Here’s the birthday cake, cuppies, and candy you requested (seen here)… with a little confession attached:
I’ve NEVER tasted yellow cake with chocolate frosting! Is that crazy? Don’t answer that. A yellow cake virgin is right alongside someone crazy enough to make homemade jumbo rainbow sprinkles… you know, to top it all off (which I clearly did not attempt because THAT, my dears, would be destination Crazyville). I’ve still got a ways to go, I’m afraid.
It’s like a sugar cookie in cake form. I’ve seen the light and am a believer. Birthday or not… this deliciousness is happening more often.
Recipe will make 1 mini 4 layer cake, plus a dozen cupcakes. Cake pans are 6 1/2 inch rounds. Sprinkles by Wilton. #1 candle purchased at Party City. Cupcake liners at Michael’s Craft Store.

To make the favors, simply: spray paint canning jar lids, rings, and mini plastic animals. once dried, glue to the tops with E-600 or hot glue. Fill jars with gum balls and assemble lids!
So tempted to make this on a Wednesday, with no special reason other than it looks delicious!
Thank you, love! Just printed these recipes for this weekend. Who doesn’t need an excuse to make cupcakes!! BTW did you use anything special to frost the cupcakes, or just a disposable decorating bag? I’ve had my eye on the frosting kit at Target 😉
I use disposable bags with a super large tip!
Can you tell us where you found the smaller canning jars? I only found the larger ones sold by the dozen at Walmart. Thanks!!!! Appreciate your fabulous ideas 😉
They’re at Walmart found in stores. 🙂
Target also has the small jars.
Ooh nice to know! Thanks, Julie!
Hello. Could you tell me where you got the small animal figurines.
Yes! Where did you get the small figurines? I have been looking everywhere!
Love it! Im having a party in december and also would like to know where to find the small animal figurines. Please and thank you!
I have the same animals at Michael’s they can in a plastic long package called Toob! They were $9.99 with 50% off them. The animals fit perfect on the small Mason Jars. Thank you for such a great idea for my daughter 3rd birthday party idea for a Circus themed!! Love it!
Do you remember what size canning jars you used? Trying to decide if the 8 oz are too small!
Thanks!
I believe they are the 8 oz… really small but perfect amount for a favor!
Did you use a particular kind of spray paint.??
No, just make sure it’s really opaque. I got mine at Michael’s and asked someone to help me choose a kind that would work well!
Hi
I love the animal lids. When you glue the animals on, do they stick and stay on afterwards? I was wondering if someone held the animal, when opening the lid, if it would fall off? Maybe over time.
Thanks
Rebecca
