Like Father Like Son

June 17, 2012

I’ll never forget the moment you became a father.

In that moment you changed.

I can vividly remember looking at you, holding our new little baby, and thinking no longer was I your only responsibility. But now he was your responsibility too.

A husband AND a father.

I felt an overwhelming sense of peace. Security. Completely relieved that I married the right man. The man that would always take care of me AND our children.

Now those tiny baby feet have grown into chubby toddler ones. Whose pudgy little piggies beg to wear flip flops just like his Dad’s.

And soon another pair of tiny feet will yearn for the same.

Two boys who will think their Dad is the best.

What an awesome responsibility to have sons that aspire to emulate you.

You’ve said time and time again that you want to follow in your Dad’s footsteps. You have (and successfully at that).

I know your own Dad is proud of you for not straying from what he’s taught you. Whose footsteps have left imprints on your heart of the right way to go. The right way to treat the women in your life. The right way to lead, to love, to live.

And now your sons’ are following in yours.

As they grow, they’ll come to respect you and see you as an authority figure.

But more importantly, I know they’ll call you their trusted friend.

When all else fails them, when their worth might be in question, when they’re lost and looking for the way…

They’ll go back to the footsteps that have never wandered from their side.

They’ll go to back to you.

How thankful I am for the footprints you’re leaving.

Footprints worth following in.

Happy Father’s Day, Love. xo

How beautifully eloquent and tender. What a legacy you are both creating. You must certainly be so proud of your sweet wife, Ryan, and of course your 2 precious little sons. Happy Father’s Day.
