It’s been awhile coming. I know. Sorry, friendlies. But a’las! Hope it was worth the wait. Here it is…
Mousse
Hairspray
Wand (Correction AGAIN! It’s $30, not $20 NOR $10! Err!)
It’s probably easiest to explain the rest of the process in consecutive days:
Day 1 (wash day):
Before blowing your hair dry, apply a liberal amount of mousse. This will help add body as well as hold the curls. It’s an alternative of using mousse on each strand before curling… remember THIS tutorial? Not having to apply mousse to each strand cuts the time significantly while achieving effortlessly looking curls!
Day 2 (5 min – touch up):
Since the curls are looser to begin with, you’ll need to touch up in the morning. You won’t need to section your hair in 3 layers like you did on Day 1. Rather, apply a fine mist of hairspray to the strands that seemed to lose the curl the most. Then proceed to curl. The product already in your hair from yesterday will now REALLY work it’s magic. Day 2 looks even better and more natural, in my opinion.
Day 3 (3 min – dry shampoo & leave it be):
Since you already have plenty of product in your hair, only add dry shampoo to the roots to add some body and life back into it. I use the wand at the base of my roots again (as shown in the video) to “perk” it up a bit. Sometimes I’ll touch up a few curls (mainly around the frame of my face) but I don’t add additional hairspray. Other than that, I let it fall out more. This is a completely different look than Day 1 or 2 but it’s cute!
Day 4 (your choice):
If you can go this long without washing your hair, SPORT IT! Depending on your mood you can keep with the Day 3 regimen or go back to Day 2.
Day 5 (it’s time):
Wash it.
PSSST! Oh and when you sleep, I’ve found it’s best to just leave it down. The few times I’ve tried sleeping with it up, I ended up with a big kink where the ponytail was AND my curls fell out even more.
One more thing and then I promise I’ll shut my yapper. If you try it and find it successful tweet me a pic @xoPinkPistachio with hashtag #10mincurls I’d LOVE to see your results!
This is awesome ! Thanks !
My Blog – A Pretty Nest
You are too cute!! I found you through pinterest a few weeks ago. Great curls tut! I will be post my curls soon π
Can’t wait to see your VS dream angel curls!
You are the cutest, thanks for all your sharing!
I just recently found your blog and spent most of my weekend reading every post! You are so positive and have such an adorable family! Thanks for the tutorials, can’t wait to finally try curling my hair π Keep up the good work, and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
WOW not sure how you can go 5 days without washing your hair? Mine gets so oily! Does the dry shampoo really work? Thanks for sharing!! Going to try this over the Thanksgiving break and see if I can pull it off π
Hi Jaclyn! You can train your hair to go 5 days… read this past “dirty hair secrets” post. π
Super dooper excited to try this! We are doing our first family photos tomorrow to give to family and friends for the holidays, so I went out and bought my very first pair of Jeggings thanks to your wonderful fashion advice, and now I am will go buy this lovely new find! I can’t wait to get all dolled up! Thanks Missy!!!
you have beautiful hair! great tutorial, thanks for sharing!
also…love your necklace and is that a scarf??? also love it ja!
I’ve received a few emails inquiring about outfit details. I’ll wear it again and post it next week π
Hey, is the curling wand you used the small or large barrel? Thanks!
It’s the large. If you click the link it’ll take you to the exact one. π
Just did this in about 15 minutes. First time, not bad! It looks fab!! Thank you!! No twitter, sorry!
I am just waiting for my hair to get long enough to loose curl my hair. It always looks so maintenance-free and fun.
Thank you for all the hair tutorials!! they are sooo helpful!! I just bought a curling rod and i have only used it a couple of times.. my curls always come out looking crazy.. does it get easier with practice?? I dunno it was so hard to keep my hair on it and the right direction.. i dunno i felt rediculous because i couldnt figure it out. usually i just give up and straighten my hair instead.. ne tips??
Oh my gosh! You are the cutest little thing!! I LOVE your singing! Ha! We would be great friends if I knew you in real life! π love all your tutorials and outfit posts! Keep em’ coming woman!!!
Ps! Love that cardigan! I have the link to buy it, saved in my favorites, but wasn’t sure about the fit! The model wearing it kind of makes it look weird! Can’t wait to see your outfit post for it so I can see what it looks like on!
As I was watching your post I ordered the curling wand off amazon on my iphone! haha hope my curls turn out just as beautiful as yours! π
Love this! Please do share how you keep the frizz at bay this time of year… I am walking around feeling either like my hair is standing on end or clinging to my shirt.
If you take a new bounce sheet and take it to your hair, it takea away the frizz where ever yoj have it!(:
Cute, thanks for the tut! I did it today. Turned out pretty cute for the first time. I already had the small wand, but went to Target today to get the larger one and it’s $5 off right now! Woohoo!
Thanks so much for this post! I have pretty thick hair and it pretty much will not hold a curl from a regular curling iron so I’m putting this wand on my Christmas list to see if it works. What moose and hairspray did you use? Also, I have trained my hair to go about 5 days but dry shampoo always makes me hair oily. I use baby powder. Have you tried that? Any thoughts on it?
Thanks again for the tutorial!
Everything you do is adorable! I love your tutorials Missy!
I am so excited about this post. This is exactly what i want my hair to look like. Now it just needs to hurry up and GROW…
and you look so cute, as always!!
Hi! Just came across your blog! love it! you are too cute! two questions – what color nail polish are you wearing ((I’m a nail polish junkie too!! )) and where did you get your cardigan? it’s too cute! thanks!
Thanks for the tutorial, can’t wait to try it!
Absolutely love your tutorial AND how funny you are π I’ve watched alot of “how to’s” on curls, but yours is the most entertaining and effective . . . I’m so happy to have found you in time for the holidays!
Have you tried sleeping with it on the very top of your head in a big scrunchie, like 90s style? I wear my hair similarly to your tutorial and this works GREAT and keeps my curls from flattening out but doesn’t leave a bump like a tighter hair tie does
Ironically, yes⦠I have tried the soft scrunchy and it still left a kink! Maybe my hair is freakishly sensitive or something? ha!
After watching this video, I knew I had to try your method! I always try for the loose curls and end up looking a mess, so yesterday, immediately after watching the video, I ran to two targets to make sure I could score one…and ummm hello success! Finally perfect waves!! Thanks so much!!!
Meep and DOUBLE Meep! This makes me SOOO happy! Send me a pic on FB? Would LOVE to see it!
Bit time bookmarking this…Love love love and totally going to try to recreate myself. Fingers crossed! π
My hair has such a hard time holding curl!! What do product do you use? LOVE this tutorial
Check out the links in the post π hairspray is “frozen stiff” by beyond the zone. I use “xtreme hold mousse” by garnier fructise
Hello!! Love the tutorial and I was wondering if you preferred the large size or smaller size wand.. I was looking at the YOUcurl by Conair because my friend has it but what do you like about the wand you used here?
I can’t wait until my hair gets long enough to try this!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
I’ve been trying to figure out how to do loose curls with my fine, straight and long hair. It always turns out looking like ringlets and takes almost an hour. I don’t have time for that so curls are something I just don’t try.
But this tutorial is amazing! I’m so grateful I came across your page. Heres a photo of my first attempt:
http://pinterest.com/pin/534028468284045914/
i never write a comment on a tutorial, mostly because i either dont try it or it didnt work, BUT THIS WORKS! FINALLY i can wear my hair curled and it not look like a tight curled afro mess. i love the way my hair looks like this, and its all thanks to you!
please please please keep posting beauty tips and such because you are so precious and really know what youre doing! keep up the good work, pink!
I love this! I did it like 20 mins ago and it didn’t turn out as good as yours but still looks good! I’m just curious that after you.blow dry it, do you straighten it then use the wand or just use the wand??? I love all your tutorials btw sooo helpful for someone with no knowledge of this stuff!!!!! π
After blow drying, I do my makeup to let my hair rest for awhile. Then I curl (without flat ironing to maintain body).
Love the curls, cant wait to try it!
What color is on your nail?? I’ve been looking for a good pink like that
It’s Orly’s Pure Porcelain (looks more nude than pink). Definitely my favorite nail color!
Hi,
Do you have a tutorial on how to use a curling wand in general? I’ve watched a few tutorials on it before, I’ve just never seen the “up and down” method you use.
Thanks!
Kellie
Wondering what kind of mouse and hairspray you use … love your blog!
Nothing fancy with the mousse – granier fructose extreme hold, hairspray – beyond the zone frozen stiff (sally’s beauty supply)
Hey it’s showing sold out at target… What size is it and what brand?
Here’s the link. One of my friends said she bought it on Amazon after seeing the tutorial. I looked today but couldn’t find it. I’m eager to try out Jose Eber’s version as well. More pricey but has a lifetime guarantee. http://www.remingtonproducts.com/womens/haircare/CurlingIrons/TStudio-Large-Pearl-Ceramic-Professional-Styling-Wand.aspx
What would the difference in doing this with the wand vs a regular curling iron and just not using the clamp? Hope that makes sense?
The variegated width really makes a difference as well as the ability to keep the hair moving without getting stuck on the clamp curling. I thought the same thing until I tried a wand. Hope this helps! xo
I am hoping to try this to my hair soon! Tried clicking on the link to see what wand you use and it said the page is no longer available. Hoping you could give me some details/brand so I can go hunt for one?? Thanks!
Here’s the link to the exact product. It’s showing out of stock as well. Last time I checked, it’s still sold in stores at Target. http://www.remingtonproducts.com/womens/haircare/CurlingIrons/TStudio-Large-Pearl-Ceramic-Professional-Styling-Wand.aspx
I just watched your loose curl and your ten minute curls. Is this just a faster updated version? this way you curled haphazard as you called it but the other one you did all away from face. does it matter which one? is one better?and what about using rollers in your hair while doing makeup?
Yes, this is a better version (less damaging to hair and definitely faster). I’m experimenting with rollers too! ha! π
You are adorable and I just love our blog! Can I ask what make up products you used? I just love the simple, natural look of it all!!
It’s my 5 minute makeup routine (see video tutorial in the beauty section or search in the search bar) with the addition of conturing shadow in Urban Decay’s “twice baked” π
I’m new to the curling wand and I’m just wondering if you could explain the difference between wrapping your hair around the wand and letting it curl that way, versus moving the wand as you do it in this video. Does moving it make it turn out looser, or just more random, so all the curls don’t look the same? thanks and love your site! π
Wrapping is fine if you’re using smaller strands. The benefit of moving the wand up and down is to help the heat evenly distribute. I found when I just wrap, the hair that’s directly in contact with the wand is a tighter curl than the outer layer. Keeping the hair moving seems to achieve a more consistent curl. Hope that makes sense! Thanks for your loyal support! xo
Loved the tutorial! I immediately went out in search of a curling wand like yours, and bonus….found it on an end-cap full of Target clearance for $20! Used it the next day, and it was a success, which was extra exciting for me because my hair NEVER holds curl! Thanks again!
Love this. So glad I tried it. Also living in small town Usa i had to improvise so I bought a regular curling iron and unscrewed the spring clip which I heard about through pinterest. Worked great. Thanks.
I tried this last night but it definitely DID NOT come out the way yours did.. Does the length of hair matter? Mines super long (like more than halfway down my back) and some parts of my hair were wavy and the bottoms were kind of curly. I use the wand all the time but kind of like a curling iron and not moving it like I did last night.
i am IN LOVE with your hair color! Do you get it colored or bleach? This is the hair color I’ve been trying to achieve for a few years!
Love this! So I did this and it was a success! Question: Do you have any tips for preserving this after a sweaty workout? I went to yoga and sweated this beautiful hair away. Also, just in general, how to you manage your hair after sweating since you are a 4-5 day washer. Sometimes it’s just not wash day!
I tried your technique today and I absolutely love the results! Although I was unable to accomplish it in 10 minutes, I still took significantly less time than my normal curling routine. I also purchased the dry shampoo you recommended and am looking forward to getting on a healthier hair regimen. I love and appreciate your blog so much! You have a beautiful family and I’m looking forward to all your future posts/advice… thanks π
Holy Moly!! Where have you been the last 4 years of my life, lol!! I’m a mom of 3 little ones (ages 4 & under, yeah, tell me about it) and your site is phenomenal!! Love the tutorials and quick tricks, cuz Lord knows I need all the time I can get :). Can’t wait to follow you more and send you some pics! Thanks Pretty Lady!!
I absolutely love your tutorials and do the 10 minute curl regularly! My hair is fairly trained, I wash every three days. after sleeping on the curl, I wake up looking like I have matted dreads for hair! How do you keep it looking so smooth and frizz free the next day when you have product in your hair?
You make it seem so easy!!! I’ve been trying to get loose curls for a while. Is there a way that you could do loose curls without a wand but a standard curling iron. I have a 1″ and a 1 1/2″ hot tools curling iron
You are awsome! So between washes do you just sorta rake your fingers through your hair to brush it? How do you keep it from looking tangled and slept on?
I have a small barrel curling wand.
Will it still work the same? Btw, loved
Your dry shampoo and straight hair tutorials!
Would you need a smaller barrel if you have shoulder length hair.
Yes, a small barrel would work better for shorter length hair! π
Your hair is gorgeous, and you definitely have this down….. It’s important to note how gently you handled your hair. Initially I was telling the screen (lol) ‘you don’t need to move the wand up and down, which you don’t and it could really easily break sensitive hair, especially over time. BUT you did not pull or twist your hair, and it really turned out lovely, great job! DB, Master Stylist
How do you sleep on your hair and keep the curl without it getting tangled?
What temperature was your wand set at?
Thanks for the idea! Going to try this tomorrow!
Did mine turn out like a birds nest because i have the smaller sized wand or because Im really that bad at fixing my hair. This happened each time I tried π it curled like three different ways and into a loose knot
http://s9.photobucket.com/user/kitz80345/media/photo_zps90004519.jpg.html
Courtney (Γ think your comment is above mine?): mine were like that until I combed through my hair and kept it flat while I curled. I flipped the wand upside down and went from the thicker end to the skinnier one, I think it helped.
As you can see from my comment, I LOVE this tutorial! I have been trying to master this FOREVER!! And I love that explain every little part, even if it seems silly. It helps SO much!!!!
what type of dry shampoo do you use?
Would love to have my hair look like this all the time…need to try this!!
Thanks!

Loved this tutortial! What size wand is it? I clicked the link but it said error π
I can’t watch your video π it just gives audio and no picture
