…to glorious pizza with perfectly stretchy cheese, ice-cream, cookies, muffins…
(sigh).
(sniffle sniffle) Yes, some of my favorite eats will be packed up and stored away for a year.
Yesterday, little Nugget’s doctor was the bearer of bad news. Allergies. Not just supposed ones. But tested. Following in his big brother’s footsteps, he has allergies to gluten and dairy (that we know of so far).
Um…hi. Definitely kicking myself now for not eating half of that pizza, like I wanted to. Self-restraint all in the name of shedding the last bit of baby weight is hogwash, if you ask me. But you won’t see me complain (from here on out) because the elimination diet and The Ingredients in Ikaria worked when I was trying to lose weight after giving birth to Gage and I have nothing but the same hopes for Beck.
So all you privileged people out there who will be licking ice-cream cones this weekend… Pile on an extra scoop for me, will ya?
Happy Weekend Friendlies! xo
Love love love your hat! Where’s it from? Gage and baby Beck are so so cute! I’ll pile on 2 extra scoops for ya, deal? 😉 xo
It’s True Religion at Nordstrom. Aww, glad to hear I’m not the only one who thinks my boys are kinda hunky! 😉
I have followed you for awhile (seeing gage’s birhtday party on a very hungry caterpillar party idea link)…I have never writen comment but should of before…You are a great mother, wife and from what you’ve talked about in the past must of been a great teacher too! You are such a blessed person!…Thank you for all you share with us…Letting us into your little world and giving great ideas along the way…My kids are grown but love watching how you are with yours! You seem to be a beautiful soul inside and out…Keep up the good work!
Sherrie, glad you crawled out of the woodwork! See? Toldya I wouldn’t bite. haha! You’re so sweet for sharing your thoughts. Truly touched by your heartfelt praise. xo
Dont worry I dont know the joy of ice cream anymore, last year I became lactose intolerant. Apparantly you can develop this allergy later in life. My sister has it too. I also have a gluten allergy which I develop 6 years ago. I still have a hard time figuring out what is safe to eat and not eat. Some days I mess up and i suffer. But i have gotten alot smarter at looking at labels. sometimes i ask my sister what is dairy and what isnt. I really need to buy a cook book for my lactose and gluten allergy. So i can be extra safe.
Experimenting with some ice-cream alternatives other than store-bought! Hopefully I can perfect one that’s tasty 😉
I know for my mother-in-law Asian, Indian and Mexican dishes are tasty gluten free meals as she can do rice and corn tortillas. It’s also sort of fun experimenting with gluten free flours in baking!
Yes yes and yes! All about ethnic food! MmM!
My son has severe food allergies to dairy and eggs. It changes your perspective of that “kid’s menu” that is full of dairy! Good luck with the food allergies.
BTW – I’m new to your site and just love it. Thanks for all the great ideas. I’m a new follower. 🙂
Welcome to Pink Pistachio, Angel! Pleased to meetcha! Yes, eating out can be a bit tricky. I learned to pack some extras in my purse for the munchkin when he started on solids.
Sorry for the change in diet! I have some yummy recipes for gluten free banana chocolate chip muffins if you want them.
Send it my way. As you can tell I have a thing for bananas in baking! haha!
I am so sorry that you will have to give those things up. That pizza and those breadsticks are seriously making me drool, I want to eat those so bad.
Good luck. And at least your cute baby will be cuter for it.
I meant your cute baby will thank you for it 🙂
oh no that stinks!! That pizza looks oh so yummy where is this? Also, what was the indicator that the babies had allergies??
Mellow Mushroom (1/2 veggie 1/2 classic). Allergy warning signs: mucousy stool, blood in stool, projectile vomiting, rash, excess gas, trouble sleeping/irritability. My doctor was able to test a stool sample.
Oh no! But from a totally selfish standpoint I remember loving some of your allergy-free recipes that you posted with Gage so I can’t wait to see what you come up with this time ;). So selfish of me I know.
I was so worried for a second when I saw your post title! I thought you were quitting the blog! Don’t scare me like that again, Missy!
Yes, there will be more recipes coming! haha! And anna, you are hilarious. I wouldn’t stop blogging just for the sheer fact that you comment every day. 😉 love ya for that. xo
Ugh. Say it isn’t so!!! I’m so sorry that you’ll be depriving yourself of all that, ooey, gooey goodness, but heaven knows sweet Beck thanks you! 😉
-Love and sparkles
Sounds like my reaction at the doctor!
I’m new to your blog and think you are so gorgeous and your little family. I really have been enjoying all your posts. They brighten my day 🙂 Thank you for sharing your life!
Ashley? Please make me smile any bigger! Highlight of my morning. For sure. xo
I don’t know about gluten allergies, but Dairy is the most common allergy children outgrow. I know because one my boys had a significant allergy to Dairy. One of his symptoms even included severe joint pain = ( Two years later, he is now allergy free & enjoying his ice cream. I hope the same happens for you =) Good luck!
Crossing my fingers, toes, and eyes it’s the same for my little meatball.
Hi! I love your blog 🙂 It sounds like you have already managed to deal with allergies, but I just wanted to let you know that a life that is dairy and gluten free does not have to be considered restrictive. I’m vegan and gluten free and food is my favorite thing about life. If you’re really missing cheese, check out Daiya Vegan Cheese. Depending on where you live, I bet there is a vegan pizza place where you could get your fill of melty goodness– and lots of vegan places are gluten conscious, too. Happy Cow (http://www.happycow.net/) provides lists/info/reviews on veg and vegan restaurants and is a really helpful resource.
Also, check out Karina’s blog at http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/p/vegan-veg-index.html. She Makes incredible recipes.
If you want a great baking book, try The Joy of Vegan Baking and sub the wheat flour for Bob’s Red Mill All Purpose Gluten Free Baking Flour.
Best of luck!
W.O.W can’t thank you enough for caring. Checked out those 2 links and I’m definitely motivated to try out some new recipes. Thank you, Becky!!! xo
So sorry to hear that. It must be stressful to know little one has an allergy like that. Poor little man. Look at it positively, you will shed (if not already) all the baby weight that much faster.
Do you think that you could post some dairy free and/or gluten free recipes along the way?
Jamee

You are welcome! I hope you find something you like! You can also check out my Pinterest board of gluten free vegan recipes. They aren’t all GF and vegan in the original recipe but would be easily modified 🙂

Just came across your blog and love all of your tutorials! You are precious 🙂 PLEASE tell me how you have that bod post-baby! I will be needing the tips soon!
You deserve a gold medal or maybe a trip to Tahiti! As someone who knows what it is like to bf a baby with a dairy allergy for a year, I send you a high five! I know how hard it is but I also know how proud I am of myself & hope you feel the same sense of pride. There are sooo many mommies that give up because of the challenge of a restricted diet. At least you know how the diet goes & you wont have to spend quite as much time “learning”. My 2nd daughter is due in November & I have already accepted the idea that I might be kissing dairy goodbye for another year. Funny how I could never really get the diet thing down when I wanted to loose weight but when it’s for my child I had no problems. Only the best for our babies! Plus the idea of the insane weight loss that comes along with it is very appealing right at this chubby prego moment! Pinterest has been huge for me finding yummy dairy/gluten free recipes! Good luck & give yourself a big pat on the back, you deserve it! Praying that our babies will soon outgrow these stinkin allergies!!!
I feel your pain…we ate gluten and dairy free for many many many years (5-6). Last summer my boys cleared skin patch food tests (the literally put little cups of food on your back for days) and colonoscopies and endoscopy and we can eat it again. It is amazing.
I didn’t see this post before 🙁 I feel ya girl, but you know it’s ALL worth it! We are weaning in Sept, when we go to Italy, and I can’t wait for some bread! Though we have made cheeseless pizza a few times (Bob’s Red Mill or gfgoddess recipe), both are satisfying! Chickfila’s new grilled chicken nuggets are gf too, that and a large lemonade and it’s a good day!
Just wondering if your boys are still allergic to dairy? If not how did you discover they were ok to eat it again? I have a little guy with a dairy protein allergy since birth and wondering if we can try it again as he will be 2 this month. Thanks!
Our pediatrician continued to do stool samples to check for blood (each time it tested positive when I had dairy). I was extremely strict in not intaking any dairy for several months and then reintroduced (sparingly) and continued to test for blood. Gradually reintroducing it into my diet worked and eventually his tests were negative. For gage I had to be completely strict for 1 year and didn’t reintroduce to him until 18 months.
Was Gage then ok with the dairy after you reintroduced it at 18 months? Can I ask what symptoms he had that flagged a possible allergy? My daughter is 1 and gets very gassy when she drinks cow’s milk.
